WHAT IS A LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction is a surgical technique that allows us to eliminate accumulations of subcutaneous fat through the use of special cannulas and an aspiration system.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR IQ?

This technique is especially recommended for patients with fat accumulation concentrated in certain areas of the body.

Although liposuction can be performed at any age, better results will always be obtained if your skin has sufficient elasticity to regain its shape after the procedure.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED BY LIPOSUCTION?

Some of the body parts that we can treat are:

  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Upper arm area
  • Pectoral area
  • Back
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Thighs
  • Hip and buttocks
  • Knees
  • Calves and ankles

WHAT IS VALUED ON THE FIRST VISIT?

The first visit is the main step for the patient who has considered the possibility of undergoing a liposuction.

Some of the characteristics that are evaluated during the consultation are:

– Medical and surgical history.

– Regular medication.

– Amount and location of fat excess.

– Quality and elasticity of the skin.

– Location of any pre-existing scar.

WHAT SHOULD I TAKE INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE THE INTERVENTION? PREOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS

There are a few considerations to keep in mind:

– Avoid certain medications that may complicate the intervention.

– Quit smoking for a period of time, before and after the intervention, since tobacco has been shown to worsen and hinder wound healing.

– Keep in mind that you will need some help after the intervention.

WHAT SHOULD I TAKE INTO ACCOUNT AFTER THE INTERVENTION? POSTOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS

Some recommendations include:

– Avoid tobacco.

– Take the prescribed postoperative medication.

– Relative rest of one week.

– Wear compression garments for a postoperative period of time.

HOW IS A LIPOSUCTION PERFORMED?

Liposuction is a surgical technique that allows us to eliminate accumulations of subcutaneous fat through the use of special cannulas and an aspiration system.

WHERE IS THIS INTERVENTION PRACTICED?

Liposuction must be practiced in a hospital or clinic. The duration of the intervention will be variable. Anaesthesia can range from local anaesthesia for small liposuctions to general anaesthesia. For this reason, it is also variable and may require hospital admission.

WHAT IS THE EVOLUTION AND POST-INTERVENTION CONTROLS?

The total recovery time will depend on how extensive your liposuction has been.

Although each patient has their own particularities, the postoperative course contains phases common to all patients:

During the first week:

You will notice some bruising, and you may feel numbness of the skin.

During the second week:

Stitches will be removed.

The bruising and inflammation will gradually disappear and the results will start to be evident.

You may rejoin your laboral activity.

At 4 postoperative weeks:

You will no longer need to wear the compression garment any longer.

After several months

Although soon after the intervention you will notice an important difference in the shape of your body, the final result is obtained after 6-12 months.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT THE RESULTS?

The liposuction results will be permanent as long as there are no significant variations in weight. Fat cells that have been removed with the intervention will not reappear. Even if you gain some weight you will find that it will spread throughout the rest of the body rather than in the target areas.

On the other hand, the healing process is gradual, so you should wait a few months before checking the final result. Factors such as fluid retention and inflammation after surgery can delay the appearance of your new figure.

CAN IT BE COMBINED WITH OTHER SURGERIES?

Liposuction can be practiced in different areas of the body at the same time and in conjunction with other surgical procedures. In addition, part of the extracted fat, or all of it, can be used as filler for correction of defects, filler for wrinkles, breast or buttocks augmentation…

ARE THERE CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR THIS SURGERY?

Although liposuction can be performed at any age, better results will always be obtained if your skin still has sufficient elasticity to regain shape after surgery.
